What happens when you get there

Dogs at the table

Hotels here usually seat dogs in a separate section or a Stube, by reservation, rather than the main dining room, so ask when you book. Klosterbräu and Pension Tyrol are the exceptions, with dogs in the main restaurant or dining room. Kristall uses the extended dining area, Krumers Alpin a dog section, Bergresort the Tyrolean Stube and the Sacher its bar.

Fees

Free at Pension Tyrol apart from EUR 25 cleaning per dog. EUR 15 a day at Kristall, EUR 20 a day at Krumers Alpin, Die Seefelderin and Karwendel, and EUR 25 at NIDUM and the Parkhotel. EUR 35 a night plus EUR 45 cleaning at Klosterbräu, EUR 40 a day at the Interalpen and EUR 45 a night at the Sacher. Bergresort and Seespitz don't publish a fee.

Lead rule

Dogs are on a lead everywhere in the Seefeld region, on every hiking trail as well as in the villages. The two exceptions are the path along the Leutascher Ache from the Salzbach car park (P5) in the Gaistal valley, about 1.5 km, and the fenced Mooser Hundefreilauf in Leutasch. Free bag dispensers and bins are all over the plateau.

Off-lead meadow

The Mooser Hundefreilauf is about 4,800 m² of fenced meadow at the forest edge opposite car park P11 in Moos, Leutasch. You book online, get an access code and have it to yourself for 55 minutes, which suits a nervous dog or one with a strong hunting instinct.

Swimming

On the Wildsee a dog can swim anywhere with open access to the lake, except inside the Waldbad Sonja. At the Strandbad Strandperle there's a dog area to the right of the jetty. The Isar and the Leutascher Ache are allowed but watch the current, the Wildmoossee and Lottensee are allowed when they have water, since both come and go. The Möserer See is closed to dogs.

Buses, trains and lifts

The guest card is your ticket for the regional buses, the Wildmoosbus and the train between Seefeld and Scharnitz. Dogs travel free on VVT transport in Tirol but must wear a muzzle. All three lift areas take dogs. At the Rosshütte funicular and gondolas a muzzle is compulsory, and on the Gschwandtkopf and Katzenkopf chairlifts the dog must be secured.

Gorges

The Leutascher Geisterklamm, open 1 May to the end of October, is signed as unsuitable for dogs, apart from the 500 m small gorge loop and part of the forest road. Leave the steel walkway for another day or take turns.

Winter

No salt goes on the walking trails, though grit goes down on icy or steep bits, so paw balm or boots help. There's a cross-country trail where dogs can run, the Torfstich A3, and a signed network of cleared winter walks. There are no official fireworks on New Year's Eve, but many hotels let off their own.

Tourist tax

The Ortstaxe is EUR 5 per person per night from 1 May 2026, children up to 15 exempt. It pays for the guest card, which is what gets you and the dog onto the buses.

Nearest practices are in Zirl, Telfs and Mittenwald. Tierambulatorium Zirl, Mühlgasse 2, +43 5238 54100. Out of hours, from Saturday noon to Monday 7am and on public holidays, the Tirol small-animal emergency line is +43 676 885 088 2444. On weekdays the Innsbruck small-animal emergency line is +43 664 255 92 53.

Best walks

The flat 3.4 km loop round the Wildsee, with a swim from the open shore or the dog area at the Strandperle. The Weidachsee circuit, about 4 km, straight from Kristall in Weidach. The off-lead stretch of the Leutascher Ache from the Salzbach car park in the Gaistal. The Wiesenweg meadow paths and the walk up from Mösern to the Wildmoosalm and the Lottenseehütte, where the Lottensee appears in wet years. In December, the 1.8 km 100,000 Lichter-Weg over the Pfarrhügel from the Dorfplatz.

When to go

The plateau sits at 1,200 m and works all year. June to September for the lakes and swimming, with the Geisterklamm open from May to the end of October. December is the time Daisy went, with the Seefeld Christmas market running 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 in the pedestrian zone, the Lichterzauber from 1 November, and the Leutasch Christkindlmarkt on 6, 13, 20 and 27 December by the Weidach music pavilion. Winter brings cleared walking trails and a cross-country trail where dogs can run, and a plateau at 1,200 m gets properly cold, so pack a coat for a short-haired dog.
