Where can my dog actually go?

Puglia with a dog is olive groves, farm tracks and a flat, rocky Adriatic coast, and most of what a dog needs is right outside the door of a masseria. All seven hotels on our list sit on one short stretch of that coast, from Polignano a Mare down through Monopoli and Savelletri to Torre Canne. There's nothing on the list yet in Bari, Lecce, the Salento or the Gargano, and these are country hotels, so plan on a car.

What separates them is where the dog is allowed to be once you leave the room. Borgo Egnazia lets dogs into most of its restaurants and bars, the lobby and the gardens, with Due Camini, the fine-dining room, the one exception. Canne Bianche in Torre Canne seats dogs in set areas of the restaurant at lunch and dinner and has a pet menu. At the other end, Masseria Torre Maizza keeps dogs out of the restaurant, the bar, breakfast, the spa and the pool, and Borgobianco keeps them out of every dining room and the spa. Both are room and garden stays, which is fine if you know it before you book.

Fees run from nothing at Masseria Torre Coccaro, through EUR 35 a night at Canne Bianche and EUR 50 a night at Borgo Egnazia and Torre Maizza, to EUR 200 per pet per week at Borgobianco. Il Melograno charges EUR 50 a stay. Weight limits are tight in places. Canne Bianche takes one dog up to 9 kg, Torre Maizza caps at 12 kg and Il Melograno takes small dogs only. Borgo Egnazia takes dogs up to 35 kg, which makes it the pick for a big dog.

Beaches are the thing to plan. There's no single Puglia rule. Regional law has each comune name the free beach stretches where dogs can go, at least one per comune, and each lido decides for itself and has to post it at the entrance. Between 23 May and 13 September 2026, when the lidos are open, book a dog beach such as Il Santos at Sisina Beach on the Torre Canne coast road rather than turning up at the nearest sand. And the Castellana caves only take small animals carried in arms or in a carrier.

What happens when you get there

Beaches
Each comune names the free beach stretches where dogs are allowed, at least one per comune, and each lido sets its own rule and must post it at the entrance. The 2026 bathing season runs 23 May to 13 September. Il Santos at Sisina Beach, on the coast road between Torre Canne and Savelletri, has a dog section with dog showers and loungers set 4 metres apart, from EUR 12 to EUR 25 a day. In Monopoli, Lido Colonia, Lido Belli Freschi at Capitolo, Kulto Beach Club and Maritimo Urban Sun at Cala Porto Verde advertise dog access, so ring ahead for a dog spot.
Sights
The Grotte di Castellana admit small animals only, and only carried in arms or in a carrier. Castel del Monte has taken pets up to 10 kg in a carrier since March 2025, with larger dogs not admitted. Alberobello's trulli districts, Rione Monti and Aia Piccola, are public streets you can walk with a dog on a lead. The Egnazia museum and archaeological park publish no rule, so ring 080 482 9056 before you go.
Trains
Trenitalia regional trains on the Adriatic line stop at Polignano a Mare, Monopoli and Fasano. A small dog in a carrier up to 70 x 30 x 50 cm travels free. A bigger dog needs a lead, a muzzle and a ticket at half the second-class fare, and some trains marked in the timetable don't take dogs outside a carrier. Ferrovie del Sud Est, which runs to Castellana Grotte and Alberobello, doesn't publish its dog rule in a form we could read, so ask at the station.
Weight limits
Canne Bianche takes one dog up to 9 kg, Torre Maizza up to 12 kg and Il Melograno small dogs only. Borgo Egnazia goes up to 35 kg. Borgobianco publishes no limit, and Torre Coccaro and Masseria Cimino ask you to confirm size when you book.

Free at Masseria Torre Coccaro. EUR 35 a night at Canne Bianche, EUR 50 a night at Borgo Egnazia and Torre Maizza, EUR 50 a stay at Il Melograno and EUR 200 per pet per week at Borgobianco. Masseria Cimino doesn't publish its fee.
Leaving the dog in the room
Torre Maizza allows it with the do-not-disturb sign on the door. Canne Bianche doesn't, but has a dog walker on request. Nobody else on the list publishes a rule, so ask before you plan a spa afternoon.
Getting there
Bari and Brindisi airports are both around an hour's drive from Savelletri. The main direct carriers from the UK and Ireland, Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways and Aer Lingus, don't carry dogs in the cabin. Check our flights app for the routes that do.

Clinica Veterinaria Città di Fasano, Via Fascianello in Fasano, runs a 24-hour emergency service on 338 227 0953. In Monopoli, Clinica Veterinaria Sant'Anna and Clinica Veterinaria Città di Monopoli both run H24 emergency services.
Best walks
The olive-grove tracks around the Savelletri masserie for early mornings, the Torre Canne shoreline right outside Canne Bianche, the coast road from Torre Canne to Savelletri past Sisina Beach, the harbour walls and old-town lungomare in Monopoli, the clifftop lanes of Polignano a Mare above Lama Monachile, and the white lanes of Rione Monti in Alberobello early, before the coaches arrive.
When to go
May, June, September and October. July and August are hot, the lidos are full, and between 23 May and 13 September most beach sand is managed, so a dog needs a named dog beach or a stretch the comune has opened to dogs. Outside that season the coast is quieter and the country lanes are easier on paws, but check which hotels are open before you book.

Can I take my dog into the Castellana caves?+

Only a small one. The Grotte di Castellana admit small animals carried in your arms or in a carrier, and nothing else. With a bigger dog, one of you visits while the other walks.

Can I take my dog to Alberobello?+

Yes. The trulli districts of Rione Monti and Aia Piccola are public streets and you can walk them with a dog on a lead. Going inside a trullo shop or museum is the owner's call, so ask at the door. Go early, before the tour coaches arrive.

Can dogs go in restaurants in Puglia?+

On terraces, almost always. Inside is the owner's decision, with no Puglia rule either way, so ask at the door. Outdoor tables are the easy default through most of the year.
