Dogs come inside almost everywhere, restaurants included. In the south of France they're more worried you'll light a cigarette than that you've brought a dog. Cannes is a seafront town that a dog can walk end to end. The Croisette promenade runs three kilometres from the Palais des Festivals to Pointe Croisette with no traffic to cross, Le Suquet climbs from the old port to the church in ten minutes, and the ferry to Île Sainte-Marguerite takes dogs on a lead for a day of forest paths and rocky coves. The catch is the sand. Dogs are allowed on three public beaches, Plage du Midi, Plage Zamenhof and Plage Gazagnaire, from 1 November to 1 May only, so in the swimming season the only sand a dog gets in Cannes is a hotel beach club that chooses to let it in. Eighteen hotels on our list take dogs, most of them on the Croisette or a few streets back along the rue d'Antibes, with a second cluster on the Plage du Midi seafront below Le Suquet.
That beach club rule is what separates these hotels. Hôtel Martinez lets dogs onto La Plage du Martinez and into Le Sud restaurant and bar from noon, outside brunch, and puts no weight limit on the room, which makes it the pick for eating out with the dog without leaving the hotel. Le Majestic's beach club welcomes dogs and puts bowls out, but its restaurants, bars, spa and cinema are a no, as they are at its sister hotel Le Gray d'Albion. Five Seas says dogs are welcome almost everywhere except the spa and gym, which is the widest access statement on the list. Hôtel & Spa Belle Plage, a five-star on the Midi seafront, welcomes dogs up to 9 kg in its common areas. The Carlton, the JW Marriott and Mondrian confirm the room and publish nothing about anywhere else, and the same goes for most of the four-stars, from the Croisette Beach MGallery to Staybridge Suites, so ask by name before you book if the bar or breakfast matters to you. Nobody on this list puts dogs at breakfast in writing, and the Martinez is a clear no.
Fees run from nothing at Best Western Hôtel des Orangers and Belle Plage, and a EUR 100 deposit handed back at check-out at Hotel Splendid, through EUR 8 a night at Le Patio des Artistes and Le Mondial, EUR 10 a dog at La Villa Cannes Croisette and EUR 25 at Five Seas, to EUR 70 a day at the Martinez and Le Majestic, where a EUR 250 deposit is added per stay. The Carlton charges EUR 100 a day. The JW Marriott charges EUR 100 once per stay but caps at one dog of 6 kg. Small dogs are the norm here. Belle Plage stops at 9 kg, Staybridge Suites at 10 kg, and the Croisette Beach MGallery and Hôtel Le Suquet at 15 kg. For a big dog the choice is Five Seas, which publishes no weight or breed limit, or the Martinez, which also sets no limit. Canopy by Hilton takes one dog up to 40 kg and sits across the road from Plage du Midi, one of the three winter dog beaches, and La Villa Cannes Croisette takes two dogs of up to 25 kg each.
Two things to plan around. The Festival de Cannes takes over the Croisette in the second half of May, the hotels fill and the promenade in front of the Palais is fenced and crowded, which is no fun on a lead. And the museums are closed to dogs, including the Fort Royal and its Musée du Masque de Fer on Sainte-Marguerite, so the island is a forest walk, not a fort visit, if the dog is with you.

Before you go
What happens when you get there
- Beaches
- Dogs are allowed on three public beaches, Plage du Midi west of Le Suquet, Plage Zamenhof out at La Bocca and Plage Gazagnaire east of Pointe Croisette, from 1 November to 1 May with no time restriction. From 1 May to 1 November they are off every public beach in Cannes, the Croisette beaches included. The hotel beach clubs set their own rule, and the Martinez and Le Majestic both say yes.
- Île Sainte-Marguerite
- Trans Côte d'Azur takes dogs on its boats from the Quai Laubeuf side of the old port and onto the island, on a lead, with a muzzle only if the dog is not easy around people. Adult return around EUR 19. The island is 22 km of forest paths and coves and the town asks that dogs stay on the lead. The Fort Royal museum does not admit dogs. The separate boat to Saint-Honorat publishes no rule on animals, so ring before you buy.
- Buses
- Palm Bus takes small dogs in a basket or on your lap and larger dogs on a lead and muzzled. Category 1 dogs are not carried. It does not publish whether a dog needs a ticket. The Palm Imperial line runs along the Croisette, and Palm Express A and B link the station with La Bocca and Le Cannet.
- Trains
- The TER along the coast to Antibes, Nice and Monaco follows SNCF's national rule. A dog in a bag of 45 by 30 by 25 cm or under travels on a small-animal ticket, a bigger dog travels on a lead and muzzled at your feet with an animal ticket. Two animals per passenger at most.
- Restaurants and cafes
- The town's own rule is that restaurants, snack bars and bars accept dogs on an outdoor terrace as a matter of course, and inside at the owner's discretion. Food shops are a no, which includes the covered market, so plan on the terrace of the Marché Forville cafes rather than the stalls.
- Museums and sights
- Cannes closes all its museums to dogs, so the Musée des Explorations du Monde in Le Suquet and the Fort Royal on Sainte-Marguerite are out. The Palais des Festivals publishes no rule for animals at its events. The Croisette, the old port, Le Suquet and the steps outside the Palais are public and fine.
- Fees
- Free at Best Western Hôtel des Orangers and Belle Plage, and a refundable EUR 100 deposit at Hotel Splendid. EUR 8 a night at Le Patio des Artistes and Le Mondial, EUR 10 a dog at La Villa, EUR 12 at the Croisette Beach MGallery, EUR 15 at Hôtel Le Suquet, EUR 20 at Staybridge Suites and Sun Riviera, EUR 25 at Five Seas. EUR 40 a day at Le Gray d'Albion, EUR 45 at Mondrian, EUR 70 at the Martinez and Le Majestic plus a EUR 250 deposit at the Majestic, EUR 100 a day at the Carlton and EUR 100 once per stay at the JW Marriott. Canopy by Hilton charges EUR 40 but doesn't publish whether that's per stay or per day, so ask, and ask Hôtel Le Suquet and Staybridge about their deposits too.
- Weight limits
- The JW Marriott takes one dog up to 6 kg, Belle Plage up to 9 kg, Staybridge Suites one up to 10 kg, and the Croisette Beach MGallery and Hôtel Le Suquet one up to 15 kg. La Villa Cannes Croisette takes two up to 25 kg each and Canopy by Hilton one up to 40 kg. Five Seas and the Martinez set no limit. Hotel Splendid says small dogs without giving a figure, the Carlton says size limits may apply, and Le Majestic, Le Gray d'Albion and Mondrian publish no cap, so ask when you book.
- Vets
- Clinique Vétérinaire Univet Cannes Carnot, 82 boulevard Carnot, 04 93 99 33 39, is open for emergencies 24 hours a day. Clinique Vétérinaire du Suquet on Place de la Petite Fabrique covers daytime. Anywhere on the coast from Cannes to Monaco, 3115 is the free 24-hour on-call vet line.
- Best walks
- The Croisette promenade from the Palais des Festivals to Pointe Croisette and round to Port Canto, Le Suquet's lanes up to the Notre-Dame d'Espérance church and the view over the old port, the 22 km of forest paths on Île Sainte-Marguerite with the Étang du Batéguier at the western tip, the Croix-des-Gardes forest park above the town with 20 km of trails and six viewpoints, and the Boulevard du Midi seafront west of the port where the winter dog beach is. The town's fenced dog park is the 400 m² Parc canin du Lys on rue du Lys, with an agility course.
- When to go
- November to April for the sand. That is the only window when a dog can go on Plage du Midi, Zamenhof or Gazagnaire, and the coast path and Sainte-Marguerite are at their best without the heat. May is Festival month and the Croisette is fenced, crowded and fully booked in the second half. July and August are hot on pavement and the public beaches are closed to dogs, so a summer stay is only worth it at a hotel whose beach club takes the dog, which means the Martinez or Le Majestic. Some smaller hotels close for part of the winter. La Villa Cannes Croisette's 2026 season runs from 10 February to 31 December, so check dates before planning a January trip.

Questions we get asked
Dogs in Cannes
Is Cannes dog friendly?+
Yes, with one big seasonal catch. Eighteen hotels on our list take dogs, the Croisette and Le Suquet are walkable, the Sainte-Marguerite ferry takes dogs on a lead and terraces accept dogs as standard. But dogs are off every public beach from 1 May to 1 November, and the museums do not admit them.
Can dogs go on the beach in Cannes?+
From 1 November to 1 May, on three public beaches only: Plage du Midi, Plage Zamenhof and Plage Gazagnaire, with no time restriction. The rest of the year the public sand is closed to dogs. The private beach clubs at the Martinez and Le Majestic take hotel guests' dogs.
Which Cannes hotels let dogs into the beach club?+
Hôtel Martinez on La Plage du Martinez, and Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic at its beach club, where bowls are put out. The Croisette Beach MGallery has its own beach club but doesn't publish a dog rule for it, and the Carlton, the JW Marriott and Mondrian publish nothing about their beaches, so ask before you book.
Which Cannes hotels allow dogs in the restaurant or bar?+
The Martinez allows dogs at Le Sud restaurant and bar from noon, outside brunch, but not at La Palme d'Or, the Martinez Bar or breakfast. Le Majestic and Le Gray d'Albion are a clear no in all restaurants and bars. Five Seas says almost everywhere except the spa and gym, and Belle Plage welcomes dogs up to 9 kg in its common areas. The others do not say.
How much do Cannes hotels charge for dogs?+
Nothing at Best Western Hôtel des Orangers and Belle Plage, and a refundable EUR 100 deposit at Hotel Splendid. Between EUR 8 and EUR 25 a night at most of the four-stars and at Five Seas. EUR 40 a day at Le Gray d'Albion, EUR 45 at Mondrian, EUR 70 at the Martinez and Le Majestic with a EUR 250 deposit at the Majestic, EUR 100 a day at the Carlton and EUR 100 once per stay at the JW Marriott.
Which Cannes hotels take dogs for free?+
Best Western Hôtel des Orangers, below Le Suquet and about 350 metres from Plage du Midi, charges nothing. Hôtel & Spa Belle Plage is free for dogs up to 9 kg. Hotel Splendid on the old port takes a EUR 100 deposit and gives it back at check-out, and puts out a bed and bowls.
Where should I stay in Cannes with a big dog?+
Five Seas, which sets no weight or breed limit and charges EUR 25 a night, or the Martinez, which also sets no limit and gets the dog onto the beach. Canopy by Hilton takes one dog up to 40 kg right on the Plage du Midi seafront, and La Villa Cannes Croisette takes two up to 25 kg each. Avoid the JW Marriott, which caps at 6 kg.
Can I take my dog to Île Sainte-Marguerite?+
Yes. Trans Côte d'Azur carries dogs on a lead from Cannes old port and the island is open to them on a lead, with a muzzle asked for only if the dog is not easy around people. The Fort Royal museum does not admit dogs. The Saint-Honorat boat does not publish an animal rule, so ring first.
Can dogs go on the bus in Cannes?+
Yes on Palm Bus, small dogs in a basket or on your knee and larger dogs on a lead with a muzzle. Category 1 dogs are refused. Palm Bus does not publish whether a dog needs its own ticket, so carry a muzzle and be ready to buy one.
Is Cannes worth visiting with a dog during the Film Festival?+
Not if you can help it. The Croisette in front of the Palais is fenced and packed for the second half of May, the hotels are full at festival rates, and there is no beach for the dog anyway because the public sand closes to dogs on 1 May. Come in autumn or spring instead.
