Sofitel Munich Bayerpost Dog-Friendly Luxury Hotel Review

best dog friendly hotel munich Sofitel Bayerpost

I had never stayed at a Sofitel before. Not one that I can remember anyway. So when I was mapping out the final leg of our trip through Austria and into Munich, I was curious about what to expect. Daisy and I had been traveling for a couple of weeks at this point, and honestly, I was running on fumes. We were coming in on the train from Austria, and I hadn’t done a huge amount of research into the hotel’s exact location relative to the station. Turns out, the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost is literally attached to Munich Hauptbahnhof. Like, walk around the corner and you’re there. For anyone arriving by train with a dog and way too much luggage, that’s a 10 out of 10 for location.

Checking In

Now, when I say “walk around the corner,” let me paint the real picture. I had a massive suitcase (32kg) because we’ll be traveling for a month. I had Daisy’s suitcase, which is about the size of an overhead bin. I had my handbag, Daisy’s carrier, and Daisy herself. There was also a lot of construction happening around the station, so the approach wasn’t exactly a graceful arrival. Solo traveling with a dog means you become a one-woman circus act with your luggage, and this was one of those days. Thank God the hotel was so close.

Check-In Experience

The moment I got to the door, a lovely man from the hotel came straight over and rescued me from all my bags. He took everything, gave me a ticket, and off I went with just Daisy. I can’t tell you how much that meant after the trip we’d been on. The previous hotels on this journey didn’t have anyone to help with luggage, and when you’re juggling a dog and a month’s worth of bags, that small gesture makes a world of difference. Those bags then magically appeared in my room later. Best thing ever.

The check-in area was quite busy when we arrived around one or two in the afternoon. Staff were welcoming enough, though Daisy didn’t get any particular welcome or fuss made over her at reception. No dog treat, no “oh look at you.” Just a standard check-in. Now, because we’d booked through Crazy Daisy Travels, we did receive some lovely perks. We got a complimentary room upgrade, a €100 credit to spend in the hotel, early check-in or late checkout, and a welcome note from the hotel manager. Those extras made the arrival feel a lot more special than the check-in itself.

The Room

We were upgraded from a standard king room to what I believe was the next level up. The room was spectacular. When I walked in, my first thought was that it felt like a cruise ship suite, and I mean that as a compliment. If you’ve ever stayed in a suite on Celebrity Cruises where you have your own butler and every little detail is thought of, that’s the vibe. Everything was considered. Everything was in its place. Smart use of space, thoughtfully designed, and just really well done.

The room had carpet throughout, which Daisy loved. She’s a Shih Tzu who appreciates soft flooring, and she made herself right at home. The bed was huge and the bedding was excellent. There was a pillow menu, which is always a sign that a hotel takes sleep seriously.

Here’s where the Sofitel really impressed me. I had to take Daisy to the vet during our stay to get her passport sorted for our flight into Ireland. When we came back to the room, my slippers had been placed beside the bed. A chamomile tea was laid out for me. There was water, and there was popcorn ready for a movie night. That level of turndown service is the kind of detail that sticks with you. It felt personal and thoughtful without being intrusive.

The bathroom was on the smaller side, which was the one thing that felt a bit different from what I’d expected for a five-star hotel. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but if you’re used to huge hotel bathrooms, just know this one leans more compact.

There was no welcome drink or hospitality amenities waiting in the room when we arrived, which I’ve had at other luxury hotels on this trip. Not a complaint, just something I noticed. For a hotel at this level, a small welcome touch in the room would’ve been nice.

Sofitel munich restaurant review Dining at DÉLiCE La Brasserie

Dining at DÉLiCE La Brasserie

We arrived hungry after the train journey, so Daisy and I headed straight down to the hotel restaurant, DÉLiCE La Brasserie. It’s the hotel’s main dining venue, a French brasserie with an open kitchen that does French food really well.

When we walked in, the restaurant was completely empty. I think we hit that sweet spot between lunch wrapping up and dinner service starting. While it was just us, I could hear phone calls coming in constantly for New Year’s Eve reservations, and they were fully booked. So this restaurant clearly has a following.

Here’s the thing. I didn’t realize it was fine dining until the amuse-bouche arrived. It was a warm drink, almost like a broth, and the flavor was incredible. That was my “oh, okay, this is that kind of restaurant” moment. And then Daisy got a very fancy dog bowl for her water. Not a plastic bowl shoved under the table. A proper, posh dog bowl. They set the tone from the very start, and I appreciated that.

I ordered the mushrooms and a cured ham dish. The mushrooms were rich and earthy and cooked beautifully. The ham was so good that Daisy and I shared it between us, and she was very pleased about that arrangement. Everything was presented with care, and the restaurant staff were really lovely even though it was just us in the whole place.

If you’re staying at the Sofitel and you’re a food person, eat here. Don’t skip it. The quality is right up there with standalone fine dining restaurants, and the fact that you can bring your dog along makes it even better.

The hotel also has Schwarz & Weiz, which is the breakfast restaurant. It serves a buffet with French croissants, Munich white sausages, and all the good stuff. Breakfast runs Monday to Friday from 6:30 to 10:30am and weekends from 7:00 to 11:00am. I didn’t make it to breakfast because our flight got changed and I wasn’t getting up a single minute earlier than I had to. Our breakfast was included as part of the Crazy Daisy Travels booking, so that was a missed opportunity on my part. Based on the setup I could see, it looked like a proper spread.

For a more relaxed drink, the ISArBAR is the hotel’s cocktail bar with a library and terrace. The bar area was busy every time I walked past, with lots of guests hanging around waiting for check-in or enjoying a late checkout.

Room Service

Because our flight got canceled and rebooked for earlier the next day, our plans for exploring Munich fell apart entirely. So Daisy and I did what any sensible duo would do. We got into our bathrobes, ordered room service, and settled in for the evening.

We ordered a burger and chips, a crème brûlée, wine, and a Coke Zero. The food was great. Nothing life-changing, but solid room service that hit the spot after a long day. We ate in bed, watched the Eras Tour on the laptop (the TV in the room didn’t get a look in), and once every last chip was gone, Daisy passed out on the duvet. It was one of those evenings where doing absolutely nothing felt like the biggest luxury of the whole trip.

Hotel Facilities and Dog Access at the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost

The Sofitel Munich Bayerpost has a heated indoor pool, spa, steam room, sauna, and relaxation rooms. I was so looking forward to using the spa, and I’m still annoyed that the flight change meant I missed it entirely. That was supposed to be my “lie-in morning with no responsibilities” moment, and it just didn’t happen.

Daisy wasn’t allowed in the spa area, which is standard for most hotels. She was welcome everywhere else though. The room, the restaurant, the lobby, the bar area. Nobody batted an eye at her being there. No one was particularly enthusiastic about her either, and that’s something to know. At some hotels, staff will go out of their way to make a fuss over your dog. Here, Daisy was accepted but not celebrated. It was fine, just different from some of our other experiences.

The hotel is a five-star property with 396 rooms across eight floors. The building itself is the former Royal Bavarian Post Office, so there’s some lovely architecture behind the modern interior. The overall vibe sits on the luxury end, with a busy, international feel in the common areas. Not the most intimate or boutique feel, but definitely upscale.

The Standout Moment

The bellman at the door and the turndown service after the vet visit. Those are the two things I keep coming back to from this stay. Neither was a big production, but both told me the Sofitel understands service at a level that goes beyond checking boxes. When you’re traveling solo with a dog and juggling a hundred things at once, that kind of attention makes you feel properly looked after.

If I had to pick something on the other end, it would be that the check-in felt a bit impersonal and there was no specific dog welcome. For a hotel that charges €35 per night for dogs, a small welcome kit or a treat at reception would go a long way. I know the hotel partners with LILA LOVES IT for dog amenities like a pillow and a box of surprises, but I didn’t receive these during my stay. That might have been an oversight, or it may depend on the room type.

Practical Details

Getting There: The hotel is attached to Munich Hauptbahnhof, literally around the corner. If you’re arriving by train, you couldn’t ask for better placement. Be aware that there’s ongoing construction around the station, which makes navigating with luggage and a dog a bit tricky. Coming from Austria, we took the train directly into Munich, and the whole transfer was about as easy as it gets. If you’re flying into Munich, you’ll want to check out the pet-friendly flight search engine to find the best options for you and your dog.

Getting to the Airport from the Hotel: This is an important one. You can book the S-Bahn train to Munich Airport through the DB Navigator app. One thing to note: unlike in Austria, there’s no option to add your dog onto the booking through the app, so just be aware of that when you’re sorting your ticket. If you prefer a more hands-off option, we’ve had great experiences with pet-friendly airport transfer services on other trips. But the train is honestly the easiest route from this hotel. Here’s what nobody tells you though. The platforms for the airport train aren’t in the main station hall. They’re downstairs, two sets of escalators below the main concourse. It feels more like a subway station than a mainline platform, so don’t panic when you can’t find your platform upstairs. If your ticket says Platform 1A, you need to head to the very end of the station (the opposite end from the Sofitel entrance) and go underground. There are no obvious signs pointing you to the airport platforms, so give yourself extra time. The train itself is brilliant, well laid out with proper luggage space and comfortable seating. It was probably the best airport transfer train I’ve ever been on.

Dog at the Vet in Munich: I had to get Daisy’s passport stamped for our flight to Ireland. There’s a vet in Munich that you can book online, which is a huge deal when you’re traveling and need veterinary paperwork sorted quickly. The walk was about 45 minutes from the hotel. Book your appointment here – Filu Vet Munich – there is one closer to the hotel but didn’t have availability so check your options.

Booking Tips: We booked through Crazy Daisy Travels and received a complimentary upgrade, €100 hotel credit, early check-in or late checkout, complimentary breakfast, and a welcome note from the hotel manager. If you’re thinking about booking a dog-friendly luxury hotel in Europe, those perks made a real difference to our stay.

After travelling from Austria to Munich, this stay was exactly what we needed. We checked into Sofitel Munich Bayerpost, and if you’re travelling with a dog or coming into the city by train, the location alone makes this hotel a standout. It’s right beside Munich’s main train station, which meant no taxis, no dragging luggage across the city, and no stressful transfers after a long travel day. Checking in with Daisy was smooth and genuinely welcoming. For a five-star hotel in a major European city, that’s not something I take for granted. The room was upgraded, calm, and spacious, with that signature Sofitel balance of modern luxury and comfort that makes you immediately slow down. We did have to pop out briefly to the vet to get Daisy’s passport signed, and coming back to the room felt like returning to a luxury cruise cabin. Proper turndown service, tea set out, slippers waiting, popcorn on the bed. It completely changed the mood of the evening and turned the room into a place you actually wanted to stay in. Room service in bed finished the night perfectly, and after days of moving between destinations, that quiet luxury was exactly what we needed. If you’re visiting Munich, especially if you’re: • arriving by train • travelling with a small dog • looking for a genuinely dog-friendly five-star hotel • or want convenience without sacrificing luxury Sofitel Munich Bayerpost is an easy yes. Calm, central, polished, and ideal after a long journey. Luxury travel with a dog doesn’t have to mean compromise, and this stay proved it. #sofitelmunich #dogtravel #dogfriendly #shihtzu

Final Verdict

I’m giving the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost an 8 out of 10. The room was spectacular, the turndown service was top tier, and the food at DÉLiCE La Brasserie surprised me with how good it was. The bellman service alone earns serious points when you’re a solo dog mom dragging a month’s worth of luggage through a construction zone.

Where it lost a couple of marks was the lack of a specific dog welcome at check-in and the overall feeling that while dogs are allowed, they’re not exactly the star of the show. At €35 per night for your dog, I’d expect a little more acknowledgment that they’re there. The hotel also felt a bit more corporate-busy than boutique-cozy, which isn’t a negative, just something to know going in.

Would I go back? Absolutely. I’m properly gutted that our flight change stole a full morning from us. I wanted that spa experience, I wanted to explore Munich with Daisy, and I wanted to have that buffet breakfast. The fact that I’m still thinking about what I missed tells me the Sofitel made a strong impression in just one night. That says a lot.
